John Sutherland is Lord Northcliffe Professor Emeritus, UCL. He has taught at the Universities of Edinburgh, London and at the California Institute of Technology. He is the author of many books on many subjects, including A Little History of Literature and How to be Well Read. He is well known as a journalist (of a high and low kind) and reviewer and was the Chair of the Man Booker Prize committee in 2005. His latest book is Jumbo: The Unauthorised Biography of a Victorian Sensation. Also this week, a repeat of the interview where Journalist Lynn Barber tells us why she loves Highgate Cemetery.
